Project DescriptionThe Insulator Creek Wetland Restoration Project aims to restore 40ha of "of concern" wetlands in the Hinchinbrook area. This critically important habitat is threatened by invasive weeds and pests, primarily olive hymenachne and feral pigs.
The research component of this project is run by James Cook University Estuary and Coastal Wetland Ecology Research Group who are collaborating with the Nywaigi traditional owners, land managers and the Hinchinbrook Wetlands Alliance. Through actively engaging the local community, the project will raise awareness of wetland values including the ecosystem services they provide and the species supported while re-establishing the ecology of the wetlands. |
